Edgar Allan Poe's famous love poetry is unmatched for its brilliance.

Edgar Allan Poe 1809-1849, who contributed brilliant famous love poetry is one of the best known poets to come out of America. His father, David was an actor and Poe was educated at the University of Virginia. His career as a poet and author started in 1827. Some of his best known poems include Annabel Lee, The City in the Sea, The Cask of Amontillado and The Raven. Earlier on I included his 'To Helen' as a great example of famous love poetry.

Let us take a closer look at four (4) more examples of his famous love poetry:

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,

In a kingdom by the sea,

That a maiden there lived whom you may know

By the name of Annabel Lee;

And this maiden she lived with no other thought

Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,

In this kingdom by the sea;

But we loved with a love that was more than love--

I and my Annabel Lee;

With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven

Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason, that long ago,

In this kingdom by the sea,

A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling

My beautiful Annabel Lee;

So that her high-born kinsman came

And bore her away from me,

To shut her up in a sepulchre,

The angel, not half so happy in heaven,

I dont know about you dear reader, but the famous love poetry line in this poem, 'But we loved with a love that was more than love--' echoes fondly from former times. Poe's famous love poetry is unmatched for its brilliance. Here are two more servings:
